Memorial Weekend Concerts

The Free Summer Concert Series hosted by rivaling morning shows Good Morning America and The Today Show started this month and the Memorial Day holiday is no exception with The Today Show offering a special performance.  The only catch is joining the crowd at 7AM, although you should show up earlier for a better view.  The musical guests usually perform at the beginning and end of each show, so if you wake up late, maybe you can catch the last set.

5/25 The Today Show- Rock of Ages
5/29 Good Morning America- Lionel Richie
5/29 The Today Show- Taylor Swift

New Album Release May 19

One more artist you HAVE to check out today…

Iron & Wine- Around the Well
Quintessential Americana folk, Samuel Beam showcases his vocal and guitar talent.  Reminiscent of Ray LaMontagne and Bon Iver, Iron & Wine’s music has made an appearance in numerous shows including Grey’s Anatomy, House, M.D., and the film Twilight.

New album releases May 19, 2009

Check out these artists that will release new albums on the 19th.

Passion Pit- Manners
Adding to the dance, electronica genre, Passion Pit blends in well with some of the veterns (Cut Copy, The Radio Dept.), seamlessly threading synthesizers with the music and lyrics of their songs.  With a mention on BBC and NME in the UK, Passion Pit is receiving well-deserved notes from the mainstream press.  We’ll be hearing them in clubs soon enough.  Listen to ‘Folds In Your Hands.’

White Rabbits- It’s Frightening
Despite the performance I missed last September, I am still a fan of the Brooklyn-based White Rabbits, now out with their second album which was produced by Spoon’s lead singer and guitarist Britt Daniel.  A smart combination of drums and guitar support the lead vocals, listen to ‘Percussion Gun.’  As a part of NPR’s World Cafe and supporting big acts such as Spoon, The Walkmen and Kaiser Chiefs, the White Rabbits have done a decent job of getting themselves out there.
